Hottest ocean temperatures in 400 years an ‘existential threat’ to the Great Barrier Reef, researchers find

研究人員發現，400年來最熱的海洋溫度威脅著大堡礁的生存

Scientists analysed long-lived corals in and around the reef that keep a record of temperature hidden in their skeleton and matched them to modern observations. The research, published in the prestigious journal Nature, used climate models to find the extreme temperatures of recent decades could not have happened without the extra greenhouse gases in the atmosphere caused mostly by burning fossil fuels.

科學家分析了大堡礁及其周圍的「長壽」珊瑚發現，這些珊瑚的骨骼中隱藏著溫度記錄，研究人員將其與現代觀測結果相匹配。 這項研究發表在著名的《自然（Nature）》雜誌上，研究利用氣候模型發現，如果沒有主要由燃燒化石燃料引起的大氣中額外的溫室氣體，近幾十年來的極端氣溫就不可能產生。
